Thomas was elected to his third term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the constituency of Edmonton-Castle Downs on March 3, 2008. He was appointed by the Premier as parliamentary assistant for Municipal Affairs on March 12, 2008. Thomas also serves as a member of the standing committees on Legislative Offices and Community Services as well as the Select Special Ethics Commissioner Search Committee.
